Today was extremely fabulous because I managed to meet up with an old friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in over a year. I met Jesper a year and a half ago at Vanderbilt, when he was a Swedish foreign exchange student. Luckily, with the magic of social networking, we stayed in touch and managed to throw together a date in less than 24 hours. He had made a spur of the moment trip to Malmö, and I convinced him to take the 40 minute train ride over to København to hang out for the day.
We wandered around København, got free ice cream after standing in a ridiculous line at Paridis, spent hours chatting in a café, and eventually grabbed beers at one of my favorites in the meatpacking district. He also brought one of his friends who lives in Malmö along, and we all had some fantastic conversations about Scandinavia, America integration, multiculturalism, being multilingual and travel among other things. Funnily enough, we managed to run into one of her friends working at my favorite bar, which just goes to show how small the world is. Today really exemplified how making and meeting friends from all over is just one more perk of the study abroad experience.
